The sun finally came out as I exited out of the Castle located in the small village of Consuegra just south of Madrid.

Earlier that day, the clouds covered the sky and the wind blasted from both sides. And, along with the group I was with, we huddled inside a gift shop inside one of the windmills.

On the gift shop’s second floor, you can view from one of cabinet windows, the town and prairie down below. And within that second floor houses an antique flour making machine. Years ago, the apprentices were paid in pounds of flour for their hard work for maintaining the windmills.

Additionally, these windmills were famously featured in Miguel Cervantes’ Don Quixote. So, it was pretty exciting to view a story’s setting in real life!
