The Basilica at El Escorial

The other day, I went to El Escorial on a Sunday. El Escorial is a Spanish Renaissance Work of Art – and was the home and burial grounds for Spanish Royals particularly during the 16th century. One of the most striking areas is the Basilica. I attended Mass there.

It was beautiful with the sky-high ceilings and the various paintings scattered throughout the walls. And the acoustics was wonderful, as the little choir’s voices echoed throughout the hall. Additionally, even entering the sacred small rooms felt tranquil and mysterious.

I donated some money and lit this candle, praying for some peace in this world.

The amount of detail and artwork put into this Basilica is absolutely amazing! I’m just awed every time I visit.
